This natural cosmetics company from Fuerteventura plans to find ecological alternatives in the coming years.
Vidaloe®, a brand of cosmetic products and food supplements based in Agua de Bueyes – Antigua, started 2019 by reducing plastic consumption by 35%, replacing it with more ecological and biodegradable packaging. The brand had already started replacing its use by 10% in 2017.
The Importance of Leading This Initiative
This measure also aims to raise public awareness about the need to reduce plastic manufacturing due to its costly environmental impact.
According to its manager, Daniel Acosta, “Our company’s goal is to sell products made on our farm in an artisanal, ecological, and sustainable way. Fuerteventura is a Biosphere Reserve, and therefore, we consider it necessary to create awareness among our consumers about the plastic problem, not only in its production but also concerning waste in the seas.”
Ecological Packaging: A Gradual Yet Firm Replacement
The company’s management considers it a priority to redesign the human relationship with plastic. This will entail an enormous cultural change, where individuals will play a crucial role in enforcing and maintaining new consumption habits.
Simple gestures such as avoiding covering soap with cellophane or a plastic bag and instead using cardboard, ecological paper, or other biodegradable components constitute a good starting point.
